The Department of Pharmacognosy and Phytochemistry have rich histories and traditions of academic excellence. Both in academics and research Pharmacognosist forms an important and indispensable link between Pharmacology and Medicinal Chemistry on the one hand and between Pharmaceutics and Clinical Pharmacy on the other. During this century there exists plethora of opportunities and innumerable challenges for a Pharmacognosist. In this message to our fellow Pharmacognosist we narrate a few of such opportunities and challenges that we confront and our endeavours in the right direction can make a difference in alleviation of human suffering by putting ‘Nature back to drug discovery and drug development.

Our departmental programs incorporate pharmacology and Pharma chemistry, and graduates are well trained to accept employment in either or both disciplines. Our research and curriculum incorporate molecular biology, genetics, neuroscience, biochemistry, physiology and other biomedical sciences, providing maximum flexibility for our graduates.

More than two hundred graduates have completed the program, and many have leadership positions in academia, government and industry. Our department hosts training programs focusing in environmental health sciences. Most Pharmacognosy and Phytochemistry are employed in teaching, research and service activities within universities, medical centers, research institutes, consulting firms, government agencies, pharmaceutical and chemical firms, toxicology laboratories, or other private or public agencies.

Our labs are well equipped as per requirement with the following instruments :

Soxhlet Apparatus, Rota flash evaporator, Desicator, Clavenging apparatus, Dean Streak Apparatus, Hot air oven, Muffle Furnace, Electric water bath, UV Chamber, Distilator, etc.
